Today marks the first day of my retirement from my stint as a pole vaulter. I'm not sure if "stint" is really the right word, but for the last eight years, a large portion of my time, my thoughts, my decisions, were focused on the art and science of pole vaulting. The end is definitely far more bitter than sweet, although my aches and pains, lack of free time (or really any time), my early bedtimes and attentiveness to healthy eating and energy conservation have weighed on me. I will miss you dearly, but again, ends are beginnings and, if we're lucky, goodbye's are see you soon's.
